    I think you should do the 3-4 reps as long as it's explosive on the way up. And try to increase it to 8 reps (same weight) with the same explosiveness and not slowing down. Once you can get up to 8 explosive controlled reps, then increase the weight.

    Jacob does mention in the jump manual that in the strength & explosion sets it can be anywhere from 2-10 reps. Just try your best to get in good quality reps

    but why did he mention to use 85% of our 1RM?

    85% of 1RM Jacob believes to be the amount of weight in which your body would recruit the most firing power as he would say, and basically the point where you can train optimally. He explains this too in Chapter 8
