How heavy was your medicine ball? Were you sufficiently warmed up?
I can't stress how important it is to warm up properly. If you don't warm up properly and are prematurely engaged in intense activity it is ONLY a matter of time before you injure yourself. It WILL sneak up on you.
Definitely don't work through pain of a new injury of the "sharp pain" category. Follow the directions in the Jump Manual for treating injuries. Don't work through any pain greater than a 2 out of 10. You may want to avoid weight bearing explosive movements like the hang clean, medicine ball throws, and jump squats.
